HERZLICH WILKOMMEN ZUR SCHNITZELBANK
A HEARTY WELCOME!

I would like to introduce myself and share some of my favorite foods with you.  My name is Roswitha Hartline "Rose", the owner and cook of Schnitzelbank.  I come from a small county in West Germany called Rhineland-Pfalz.

Like the Ozarks, Rhineland-Pfalz is a small paradise for hunting, fishing, and good hearty food.  Rhineland-Pfalz is also known all over the world for producing some of the best wines.

I learned much of my cooking from my family.  My Grandmother "Oma", would often say, "If you do not work, you do not eat".  Oma always caller her cooking "working man's food".  When times were hard after WWII, Oma could stretch a dollar meal to feed four people.  My father was a pastry chef and his sister, my Aunt Paula, was a gourmet chef.  Aunt Paula obtained her degree in France, then later had the idea to purchase the historic Dr. Faust Hause and turn it inot a family operated restaurant.  

Yes, this is the house where alchemist Dr. Johann Faust was famed for the "Faust Legend" in which he is said to have sold his soul to the devil in exchange for power and knowledge.  Today the legend of Dr. Faust continues to inspire many books, movies, songs, and plays. 

Aunt Pula owned and operated the restaurant which was located in my home town of Bad-Kreuznach, Germany.  A new legend was started when the Faust house became known for the excellent food and impeccable serice my family provided.  Aunt Paula, Oma, and my father worked together for many years and loved what they were doing.  I am so fortunated they passed their love of cooking on to me.  It is so true that good cooking really does come from the heart.
